By Nanu Robbins
About Blender 3D
Blender 3D is a open-source 3D graphics suite, that is capable of
modeling, rendering and animating 3D environments, and one of the
best parts about it, is that you can download it right away for
free. Another cool thing about it is that the installed program it's
only 10 MB, and not only that, but it can run on Linux, Windows and
About the Author
Allan Brito is a Brazilian architect who specializes in information
visualization. He lives and works in Recife, Brazil. He works with
Blender 3D to produce animations and still images for visualization
and instructional material.
Besides his work with Blender as an artist, he also has substantial
experience teaching 3D modeling, animation, and multimedia at
Mauricio de Nassau College.
He can be reached through his website, where he covers the use of
Blender 3D and other tools for architectural visualization.
Although this is a detailed guide, is far from being full of useless
blabbering, and it goes straight to the point, taking you from a to
z, from installing Blender and understanding how it works to the
post production editing of the final images with another awesome yet
free software: GIMP.
I recently reviewed a book called "SketchUp 7.1 for Architectural
Visualization", and while SketchUp is a different animal with
tremendous power, I feel that Blender has been avoided for far too
long, and the truth is that it can easily be measured with SketchUp
in many ways. More about that, after the brief presentation of the
Chapter 1: Introduction to Blender and Architectural Visualization
This chapter will cover the basics on Architectural visualization,
the hardware and software requirements for Blender, tools for
visualization, and CAD and 3D-Architectural modeling and resources.
Chapter 2: Blender 3D: Quick Start
Starting up with the interface of the software in Windows, and the
customization power of the interface. Blender can be a quick tool if
you know the keyboard shortcuts, and this is exactly what Chapter 2
Chapter 3: Modeling
You will learn about mesh primitives, operations such as extrude,
subsurf modifier, smoothing faces, grouping and proportional
Chapter 4: Modeling for Architecture
Architectural modeling is all about proportions, and precision. This
chapter will teach you how to work with layers, and how to create
the basic objects we use everyday in architectural modeling, like
walls, openings, floors and lining, etc.
Chapter 5: Modeling Details
Yes, believe it or not, GOD is in details, and this chapter will
demonstrate how you can model windows, and doors with the amount of
detail you want
Chapter 6: Modeling Furniture
Here you have the option of modeling, of using predefined objects
from a library. Also if you really want to create your own designs,
there are two sub-chapters that will cover modeling a chair and a
Chapter 7: Materials
If you lack experience with materials, than this chapter will cover
this subject. Materials of course will give life to your scene, so
learn this fast, and learn it well.
Chapter 8: Textures
Working with textures can be nerve wracking, and can kill your mood
if you don't find what you want, or can't get the texture to map on
your object in the desired manner. This chapter will clear things
Chapter 9: UV Mapping
what is UV mapping, and why should you care? well, the fact is that
no matter what texture you use, if you don't map it the right way,
it will look awful and un-natural to everyone.
Chapter 10: Light Basics
Light will get the best out of your materials, and this chapter will
teach you how to use different types of lighting like: Lamp, Sun,
Are, Spot, and will show you a simple exercise for best results.
Chapter 11: Radiosity and Ambient Occlusion
For some this might be new terms, but rest assured, this chapter
covers all you need to know about this sort of rendering.
Chapter 12: Global Illumination with YafRay
YafRay, just like Blender, is a open source external render, which
works great with Blender. Some say it's the external software that
presents the best integration with Blender.
Chapter 13: Animation for Architectural Visualization
If you're a big animator, then this will give you all you need in
order to create the best animation for you scene, from describing
Keyframes, to Interactive Animation.
Chapter 14: Post-Production with GIMP
You surely heard about Photoshop, but I'm not so sure you heard
about GIMP, and that's a shame, because this software can help you
adjust your image in a few mouse clicks. This chapter goes in depth
explaining post production techniques.
Blender 3D is a powerful tool when you can master it, and the
libraries that you can find for it are in constant growth, so this
can be a great option if you're trying to achieve great results with
a free software with powerful features, and minimum hardware
Good luck using the amazing power of Blender 3D in your future
Advantages of Architectural 3D Modeling, 3D Rendering For Modern
By Bobby V Smith
In the present globalization Modern building requires fabulous
interior and exterior looks. projects of interior and exterior
decoration are heavily depend upon the most popular technology
architectural 3D modeling and 3D rendering that can be supplied by
the contractor or builders to professional architectural firms.
Architectural Models are generally prepared using Computer Aided
Design (CAD/AutoCAD) and other 3D software that contains various
information of building. These details allow you to view your future
building before it built and also help to make cost estimation.
Using 3D modeling and 3D rendering you can get exact idea about your
all building components.
In the past traditional methods were used that require many hours to
produce useful information regarding building like design and
planning. To stay stable and to earn unique reputation in today's
competitive world it is must to deliver faster outputs with high
quality and accuracy. Using CAD designs, 3D Modeling and 3D
rendering techniques you can save maximum time, cost, efficiency and
efforts while making 3D models for your building. All moving objects
on your computer give complete idea about your building components.
Advantages of Architectural 3D modeling and 3D rendering include the
Pre Visualization of all type of building from large shopping mall
to small units
Error free solutions that may be occurred while drawings and
Interior Decoration for bed rooms, living rooms, bathroom, kitchen
Virtual tours for whole building process
Exterior view setups like shadow, parking, trees, lighting
Maximum accuracy up to 99%
An intelligent architectural 3D model contains all information like
data, designs, materials, drawings and other documents that help
architects to produce building plans, elevations, drawings and cost
estimation. Cost is the main factor that must be calculated before
the starting any type of building construction. An Architect can
apply various imaginations using 3D model and can constantly check
their impact on outputs and cost. To produce additional views
architects make rotation of 3D models. By making rotation you can
also produce other perspectives that may be help you in many ways.
In Last many years 3D modeling and 3D rendering have got significant
growth in the Architectural industry due to need of faster
infrastructure development. So both techniques are become most
popular term for outsourcing. Many of architectural firms are
offering exceptional solutions for 3D modeling and you are wise
enough to choose proper one.
3D Rendering - Photographic Presentation For Realistic View
By Jenny Shield
3D Architectural Rendering is the most popular concept used to
generate 3 dimensional views for any object. 3D techniques have
reduced complexity and allow architects to make clear conceptual
visualization on TV or on computer. Due to clear visualization 3D
architectural rendering has been appreciated by architect industry.
It is of course true thing that 3D is quite expensive compare to
other techniques but it serves most exciting features which will
allow you more realistic for your various concepts and ideas.
You can pre visualize your office or home on your computer and can
identify that how your building will look in future. Basically
architects are using 3D rendering widely as it allow applying
different ideas in different ways. It is obvious thing that
different ideas can generate various concepts and design and as
output you will find unique design for your building. You can also
play with your imagination and that is cost free.
In the past time all the concepts were evaluated on paper but at
present time architects are not depended on paper work. Software
like AutoCAD makes rendering and designing easy. All the architects
are moved on 2D and 3D technology. By 3D architectural rendering you
can view moving object on computer so you can view your future
building from the entire corner.
Professional 3D architectural services provider firms are using 3D
rendering services to impress their clients. 3D rendering is used in
many ways like landscaping projects, interior design and exterior
design. 3D architectural renderings services provide benefits like
full project visualization, high quality presentation, increases
productivity, error free models and preview for interior and
Rendering is also used for floor designing. Proper floor designs
make attractive looks. You can now get real view of your floor
design on computer. The technique is not only limited for floor
design but also used to evaluate textures, lightings and other
effects. This technique is like photography as it represents images
in different ways. Using 3D rendering you can visualize your dreams
For outsourcing purpose it is most desirable technique as it is much
flexible and can save your valuable time by outsourcing.
