CAD and Graphic Design

By Clay Bowling

Through out my career as an Architectural Engineer and general CAD Draftsmen I've learned all the different programs associated with CAD or Computer Aided Design. Some of these software programs allow the process of 3D Modeling to be performed, and most of them are associated with Mechanical Engineering. With the technology within these programs it allows the user to apply materials and texture to be added, and rendering to be applied to the 3D models. With this sophisticated software users can create intricate Graphics with a lot of detail which allows the most detailed 3D models available to be created with computers.

Programs in particular like Autodesk's Inventor allows this process to be done with ease, and in a timely manner. Being in the business I have used this software to create 3D models which I use on my website along with several other projects which allows complete customization of anything it's inserted in. With this flexibility it allows me and others to create basically any 3D model the mind can imagine. For website owners this is great because they can actually get as specific as they want with the design. From the lighting, reflectivity, materials, and texture added to the models.

Having this power is an awesome tool for Webmasters, Graphic Designers, or any one in need for a 3D model that has to be customized. On my own personal website I can basically add any design that I want due to the fact I'm the one creating it. In most situations Graphic Designers have to use objects and images to alter in order to create something custom that no one else has. CAD Designers on the other hand use their imagination to create these images from the ground up which puts them in a better position to create images that are completely unique. Since I operate CAD and can operate Graphic Design software it allows me and my company to design images that no one else has access to which gives me the upper hand in any design situation.

To learn CAD most people have to go to school for a minimum of two years and sometimes probably more. The same goes for Graphic Designers, so if you can get educated in these two fields the possibilities of 3D design are endless. Graphic Designers and CAD Draftsmen can work together and create the most unique design imaginable. If you would like to learn more about CAD drafting or Graphic Design feel free to visit my website at http://www.elinedesign.com and I'll answer any questions you might have regarding these two professional fields. Thank you for your interest in Computer Aided, and Graphic Design.

Mixing 2d and 3d Graphics

By Dan Geb

Some designers stick to one specific graphic program working with it's limitations and when it comes to create something more advanced like a 3d looking image in 2d graphic application, they bite nails wondering how to make it.

The solution is mixing capabilities of a few programs. We have so many great 2d and 3d graphic applications so why not to get the most from each of them and drop on one project?

Mixing 2d and 3d graphics can bring really outstanding effects to your artwork that will make viewers feel amazed and wondering how the image was done.

The nature of 3d programs is their ability to render realistic looking 3d scenes along with lights and natural shadows.

2d programs like Photoshop for example are great for adjusting colors and giving final touches to the still images in order to increase their visual appearance.

You can take the capabilities of both to your advantage.

Just use your favorite 3d graphic software and render a simple scene with a few lights and shadows to the still image format. Open it in 2d graphic program and drop for instance a cut silhouette of yourself on the background. A Few color adjustments and you get ready to go with the image.

Using 2d graphic programs you can easily add fast and nicely looking effects to the 3d renderings such as:

textures, color changes, contrast or additional lighting that could take hours to get rendered in 3d application.

Summarizing 2d and 3d graphic applications can be powerful weapon in hands of designer. When capabilities of both are mixed the right way, the results may be amazing and imagination only a limit.

Light, God's eldest daughter, is a principal beauty in a building.
Thomas Fuller

I don't think of form as a kind of architecture. The architecture is the result of the forming. It is the kinesthetic and visual sense of position and wholeness that puts the thing into the realm of art.
Roy Lichtenstein

Architect. One who drafts a plan of your house, and plans a draft of your money.
Ambrose Bierce

An architect should live as little in cities as a painter. Send him to our hills, and let him study there what nature understands by a buttress, and what by a dome.
John Ruskin

Ah, to build, to build! That is the noblest art of all the arts. Painting and sculpture are but images, are merely shadows cast by outward things on stone or canvas, having in themselves no separate existence. Architecture, existing in itself, and not in seeming a something it is not, surpasses them as substance shadow.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

No architecture is so haughty as that which is simple.
John Ruskin

We may live without her, and worship without her, but we cannot remember without her. How cold is all history, how lifeless all imagery, compared to that which the living nation writes, and the uncorrupted marble bears!
John Ruskin

All architecture is great architecture after sunset; perhaps architecture is really a nocturnal art, like the art of fireworks.
Gilbert Keith Chesterton

No person who is not a great sculptor or painter can be an architect. If he is not a sculptor or painter, he can only be a builder.
John Ruskin

Believe me, that was a happy age, before the days of architects, before the days of builders.
Lucius Annaeus Seneca

A structure becomes architectural, and not sculptural, when its elements no longer have their justification in nature.
Guillaume Apollinaire

When we build, let us think that we build for ever.
John Ruskin

All fine architectural values are human values, else not valuable.
Frank Lloyd Wright
